Amsterdam – Ian McEwan

In-between Book Club Reads – Amsterdam, by Ian McEwan

Very interesting book! This one has two old friends as the main characters but there’s another character that features prominently throughout the book – Molly, who just happens to be dead. It is impressive how thoughts of her seem to ooze from the pages of the book as the two men play out their lives in memory of her and their own idiosyncrasies. It’s fascinating to watch these two characters interact with each other, letting both their fears and their self-absorptions get in the way. At least that’s my take on it. It’s a really quick read, as it’s shorter than most novels. It will surely leave you wondering how people can be like that, although I’m not sure why that would be surprising. Check it out! And as usual, see this link for more information.
