Carrying On – How Hard Can It Be?

As it turns out, sometimes it’s very hard. This has been a tumultuous year and it’s not even over yet. The world has turned topsy-turvy and once familiar things are hard to recognize at times. Concepts I thought I knew to be true are not and other ideas so horrible to imagine are true. Sometimes I do not recognize this world we live in. Perhaps it was always like this and I had blinders on, happy in my own little space where I was the conductor. How naive.

Just think about some of the things that have happened or are happening this year so far:

  • COVID-19 has killed almost 200,000 people in the USA and there’s still not a vaccine.
  • Businesses have closed, many permanently.
  • People have lost jobs, many permanently.
  • More people have lost their homes.
  • People are fighting about whether or not to wear a mask – saving lives versus an assault on civil liberties.
  • Political party affiliation has become a factor in judging new people we meet.
  • Families have split over politics; some families will never heal.
  • Racism has raised it’s ugly head and it sure seems like this country didn’t progress as much as we thought it had.

I don’t know what the future will bring but I sure hope that when 2020 passes, the new year is full of promise and joy. I hope we can move forward together. I really hope so. I really do.
