The Kitchen House – Kathleen Grissom
Novel Conversation’s Book Club – June 2017 Book – The Kitchen House, by Kathleen Grissom
Just wanted to say thanks to all of you that were able to make our June meeting for the Novel Conversations Book Club at the Sequim Library. The discussion on The Kitchen House, by Kathleen Grissom, proved to be insightful, although I think many of us left wanting to know more. There were lots of questions around why the author chose to leave out details on some of the storylines, like more of what happened to Marshall as he was growing up, why Lavinia seemed so naive at times, the relationship between Belle and her real father, more on the Irish immigration experience, etc. Sometimes we want more from an author, don’t we? There did seem to be some correlations to the previous month’s book The Orphan Train, by Christina Kline and others compare it to The Help, by Kathryn Stockett. As mentioned during our discussion, there’s a follow-up book called Glory Over Everything. There was also a couple of chapters posted in the back of The Kitchen House book. So if you want more, go for it!
